WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris invites the public to attend worship services at 9 a.m. Sundays, provided by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson, guest speakers, and the Worship Service Committee.
Oct. 9: “Deliver Us from Evil,” led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Attendees will use the Rev. Paul Rasor’s “Liberal Theology and the Problem of Evil” as a guide to explore the social justice responses to today’s atrocities not just as political statements, but as statements of faith.
Oct. 16: “Why We Should Vote, How Lucky We Are to Have This Right,” led by the Worship Service Committee. A discussion about referendum questions on the November ballot.
Oct. 23: “What Are You Doing Here?” led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Elijah of Biblical fame was asked, “What are you doing here?” and he had an answer. Asked the same question, people might not have a ready answer. Service will consider whether attendees are working and living for goodness, or if they are just coasting along.
Oct. 30: “Simplicity Isn’t Simple,” led by the Rev. Nancee Campbell. Having recently discovered the writings of the Rev. Dr. Forrest Church has helped Campbell embrace the inevitability of change, and she would like to share some of his wisdom. In the book he wrote just before he died, he offered up, “Want what you have; do what you can; be who you are” as a philosophy, a statement of faith, a theology, or a way of life. This mantra can ease and strengthen the way people live their lives.
