PORTLAND — Officials say revenue generated from summer tourism in Maine is poised to break all previous records at the end of August.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Maine Revenue Services data shows restaurant and lodging sales for this past summer increased
For the four months ending Aug. 30, restaurant sales were up nearly 5 percent from 2015. Lodging sales improved by more than 7 percent for the same period.
The numbers reflect the highest revenue for both industries in Maine’s history.
Officials indicated that strong sales in Portland, Bar Harbor and along the southern coast largely contributed to the boom. The Maine Turnpike also saw a higher volume of traffic — another sign of summer tourism gains.
