FARMINGTON — The Farmington Parks & Recreation Department is now offering a free After School Climbing Club for local middle-schoolers.

Children in grades six through eight can socialize after school and use the Community Center’s bouldering wall. Climbing can build strength, endurance and confidence.

The club will meet from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in October and November. Boys will climb on Mondays, girls on Wednesdays, and there will be a free-for-all on Fridays. Following the climbing will be free gym time from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

The department will provide free climbing shoes and all other items to get children’s feet off the ground.

The club was generated from the amount of interest the department received from Rock Stars Climbing Camp, its the summer program. It’s made possible in part by the Healthy Community Coalition and a Carol M. White PEP Grant.
