1931 – 2016
AUGUSTA — Virginia “Ginny” Kyes, 85, of Wilton, formerly of Industry, passed peacefully on Tuesday evening, Oct. 11, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
She was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Farmington, a daughter of John and Pearl (Johndro) Pond. She received her education in local schools and on Aug, 23, 1952, married Harold “Buddy” Kyes. He predeceased her in January 2005. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she had been employed at J.J. Newbury in downtown Farmington, G.H. Bass in Wilton and ARA Services at UMF. She co-owned Kyes General Store on Clearwater Lake for many years with her late husband. She was a longtime member of the Extension and the Crystal Lake Grange.
She enjoyed square dancing and cooking and will long be remembered for her wonderful home-baked pies, whoopie pies and doughnuts. Family was her priority and she devoted much love and care to her late stepmother, Doris Pond, and her sister, Madeline Kilponen, caring for them until her own health needed tending.
She was a beloved grandmother of Amanda Kyes, Kimberly Kyes and Ethan Kyes; and her granddaughter, Bridget Burdin, whom she helped to raise. In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, with whom she made her home, Greg and Diane Kyes of Wilton; her daughter, Cindy Hall and her husband, David, of Industry; siblings: Phil Gendreau of Casco, Bob Pond of Canton, Emma Jane Reynolds of N.H. and Burpee Pond of Naples, Richard Pond of Naples and Connie Deering of Gorham and a sister-in-law, Wilma Hobbs of Farmington.
