I am proud of the entire Lewiston legislative delegation and the strong leadership they have shown for their community, but I want to single out one member in particular because she is probably the least likely to call attention to herself.

I have known Rep. Heidi Brooks for several years and she is one of the most compassionate people I know. In Augusta, she has been a tireless advocate for children and families.

I am especially grateful that she is taking steps to address the staggering levels of lead in Lewiston and lower the risk of childhood lead poisoning. She has introduced legislation to require water testing for schools and childcare facilities that use private wells. She also put forward a bill to make it easier for families with young children to access lead tests for drinking water.

I look forward to her continued leadership during the 128th Legislature.
