1940 – 2016

STRONG — Rocqueline “Rocky” Theresa Targett, 75, of Strong, passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord cradled by her family, who had brought her home and surrounded her with their love and affection late Friday morning, Oct. 14.

She was born in Strong on Nov. 29, 1940, a daughter of Neil and Laura (Nichols) Luce and received her education in Strong schools, where she made many friends. On July 14, 1956, she married the love of her life, Hugh Targett. He passed Sept. 7, 2013.

Rocky was, first and foremost, a mother to her three children. She provided child care to many others and was an “adopted mother to many.” In 1971, she began a 37-year career in social work for Western Maine Community Action, where she was a genuine, caring advocate for many local families. She was an integral part of Operation Santa Claus, which is still active today.

She lived for and was in her glory when she was hosting gatherings of family, extended family, and her many friends, whether she was swimming and floating in the pool, barbecuing, enjoying live family music and sing-alongs on the deck. She loved to cook for her family.

She is loved by her family, including her son, Randy and his wife, Heather, of Oquossoc; daughters, Laurie-Anne Targett Brown and her husband, Rich, of Strong and Linda Targett-Barton and her husband, Peter, of Farmington; grandchildren, Kristofer Targett, Travis Targett, Garrett Adams, Amanda Barton Simpson, Keith Barton, Mitchell Robbins, and Meg Targett; two brothers, Jim Leeman and his wife, Lillian and Ralph Luce and his wife, Rae Ann; a sister, Cheryl Goding; and a sister-in-law, Gail Luce.

She was predeceased by her husband; her folks; and her brother, Glen Luce.

The Targett family would like to give special thanks to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, Umbagog Dialysis Center, Dr. Rice & staff for their tender loving care of their beloved mother, Rocky Targett.

Condolences and tributes and a memorial video may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
