1927 – 2016

BUCKFIELD — Wilfred J. Deane Sr., 88, of Buckfield, formerly of Limestone, was called home Monday, Oct. 3, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Wilfred was born in Ft. Farfield on Nov. 26, 1927, a son of Elmer and Palmira (Dubay) Deane and was educated in local schools there. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Turner. His awards and decorations include the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal.

He worked for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for over 37 years and was a conductor and brakeman.

He was a life member of the Lockhart VFW Post No. 6157 in Ft. Fairfield and served as post commander in 1991, ’92, ’95, ’96, ’99 and 2000, served as district commander in 1995-1996, and was national assistant inspector general in 2000-2001. He was also a member of the American Legion in Ft. Fairfield and had attended the John D. Long American Legion Post in Buckfield.

He married Jean LeFrancois on April 13, 1950.

Wilfred leaves behind his wife, Jean of Buckfield; a son, Wilfred J. Deane Jr. and his wife, Teresa, of Buckfield; a daughter, Sharon Rozier and her husband, Randy, of Ft. Worth, Texas; a brother, Donald of Ft. Fairfield; a sister, Jessie Davenport of Ft. Fairfield; five grandchildren, Sonya Swartout, Heather Turner, Nicholas Rozier, Ashley Adams and Wilfred J. Deane III.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Wilfred was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Thornton in 2003; a grandson, Travis Rossignol in 1989; two brothers, Elmer Jr. and Soloman; and a sister, Rosie Bubar.
