1928 – 2016
WINTHROP — Vivien Colfer Smith, 87, of Leeds passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center. Vivien died of Alzheimer’s disease after a four-year battle.
She was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Hallowell to parents James P. Colfer and Kathryn Trial Colfer. On Oct. 29, 1955, she married Raymond O. Smith of Greene. He predeceased her in 2004. Vivien enjoyed crochet, reading, crossword puzzles and her family. Vivien worked at New England Telephone as a telephone operator until she married and had a family. She then became a full-time home worker on the family dairy farm, Smith Farms, in Greene.
She is survived by children, Shirley J. Sloan and James C. Smith Sr. of Leeds; granddaughter, Becky Davis Alley of Boothbay; grandson, James C. Smith Jr. of Leeds; great-grandchildren, Hayden Alley and Sawyer Alley of Boothbay, Kailyn Smith of Gardiner and Rosie Smith of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by sisters, Patricia Colfer Rose of Greene, Katherine Colfer Grimes of Marshall, N.C., Sharon Colfer Hiett of Montrose, Colo.; and brothers, Paul Colfer of Orlando, Fla., A. Michael Colfer of Maple Falls, Wash., Eric Colfer of Sunnyvale, Calif. and Dale Colfer of San Jose, Calif.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Raymond O. Smith; and brothers, James Colfer, Edwin Colfer and Gene Colfer.
