MINOT — Town Administrator Arlan Saunders informed selectmen Monday that the temporary patching on the Town Office roof failed during recent rains.

Saunders said that the leaking hadn’t been too bad, but that in addition to a repeat of the leaking problems in the treasurer’s office, water was leaking into the lighting fixtures in his office.

“I have hired State Roofing to go over the roof and temporarily seal any exposed areas and to caulk the flashing on the chimney and vents,” Saunders said.

Problems with the roof were discovered in late summer and, determining that the entire roof really ought to be replaced, Saunders had Highway Department personnel do a quick fix while he attempted to find a roofing company to do the job.

Saunders said that, given the lateness of the season and the fact that roofing companies have all the commitments they can handle, the roof replacement will have to wait until spring.

Saunders also gave selectmen the schedule for the process to set next year’s town budget, which sets Dec. 5 as the date for their initial review of budget requests.
