HEBRON — The Thanksgiving Meal Trail 5K, Kids’ 1 Mile Fun Run and Pumpkin Roll contests will take place Sunday, Nov. 13, at Hebron Academy.
The 5K will lead walkers and runners through the trails at Hebron Academy as participants chase a Thanksgiving meal through the woods. Following the race, raffle prizes will be given to participants.
The 5K, which begins at 10 a.m. at Hebron Academy’s athletic fields, benefits Go! Malawi, a nonprofit that has education programs and provides scholarships for children in Ntchisi, Malawi, so they can continue their education after primary school. In Malawi, free education ends after eighth grade. The nonprofit pays tuition for more than 50 impoverished children, allowing them to continue their education while giving them a chance at a productive life.
Runners can register for the events at 8:45 a.m. on race day. The Kids’ Fun Run is at 9:30 a.m. on the track. There are four pumpkin roll contests as well.
Two children’s contests are at 9:55 a.m., and two student and adult contests are immediately following the 5K at 10:45 a.m.
To preregistration go to active.com or www.go-malawi.org. Participants who preregister will earn six raffle tickets; same-day registrants will earn one.
Raffle prizes include getaways, African carvings and gift certificates. Prizes are also awarded to runners that pass meal items as they chase pumpkin pie all the way to the turkey through the woods.
The race is open to all runners and walkers. The cost for the Kids’ Fun Run is $10 on race day, and $5 for those who preregister. The 5K event is $20 on race day, and $18 for those who preregister.
