LEWISTON — Students at the Senior College at University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College are part of a pilot program using Zoom, a videoconferencing application similar to Skype, for the Online Memoir Writing Class, sponsored by the Maine Senior College Network in cooperation with USM in Portland.

The students are able to see and hear each other and their interaction with the instructor. The class is recorded and a link provides students the access for hearing and seeing the class as a review and is also available if a student misses a class.

If successful, this pilot program will be the foundation for future online courses on different subjects offered to the 17 senior colleges throughout the state of Maine.

The class runs September through November.

Anne Cardale, director of Maine Senior College Network, is coordinating the course in cooperation with USM, Portland. Elizabeth Peavey, a well-known columnist, author and playwright in the Portland area, is the instructor.
