The girls’ athletic association at Bates College held a hare and hound chase Saturday afternoon. The members of the athletic board, who were the “hares” left the college about 12 o’clock. The rest of the girls waited until 1:30 before starting. After following the trails in various directions and enjoying a car ride, the party finally arrived at Taylor Pond. Here, a fire was built and supper served. After supper the freshmen girls were asked to do a number of stunts, to which they all responded so willingly, that they won from the sophomores the enviable title of “good sports.” The girls returned about 8 o’clock and all reported a fine time.

The newly lined and covered Webber Avenue Reservoir in Lewiston is on line, promising the city’s water users more pressure and greater reliability. Contractor Pratt & Son built a concrete wall around the 2-acre reservoir to which a liner and cover were attached to meet federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. The project was completed on time — the reservoir was due to be operational by Thursday — even though the liner that was first installed was defective and had to be replaced, said Denis Caron, electrical superintendent at the Public Works Department. The replacement came at the manufacturer’s expense, he said.
