BETHEL — Residents in School Administrative District 44 will vote Nov. 8 whether to change the cost-sharing formula from 100 percent valuation to 90 percent valuation and 10 percent student enrollment for fiscal years 2018 and 2019, then to 85 percent valuation and 15 percent student enrollment from 2020 on.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m in the following locations:

• Bethel, Crescent Park Elementary School;

• Greenwood, Town Office;

• Newry, Town Office; and

• Woodstock, Town Office Conference Room.

The school board hired facilitator Jake Clockodile to assist the Cost Sharing Committee to develop the formula.

“Part of the goal, from my perspective, is to try to keep the district whole and intact,” Clockodile said. “My hope is that if the voters agree to adopt it, it would encourage Newry not to withdraw. If voters don’t adopt it, that leaves things the way they are,” with Newry’s ongoing withdrawal efforts.

“(If Newry withdraws), it’ll make it very difficult for (the remaining towns),” he said.
