1921 – 2016

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Ronaldo Patrick Martin Sr., 95, of Clearwater, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Muriel (Cote) Martin; two daughters, Diane Walsh and her husband, Jim, of Dedham, Mass. and Sonia Russell and her husband, Tom, of Bangor; one son, Ronaldo (Roy) Patrick Martin Jr., OD, of Yorktown, Va.; three sisters, Teresa Lorenzetti of Old Saybrook, Conn., Doris Noles of Bristol, Conn., and Jacqueline Atwood of Watertown, Conn.; one brother, Lucien Martin and his wife, Solange, of Bristol, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Laura (Sirois) Martin; brothers, Norman, Fernand and Joseph Hermel; and sisters, Mildred Plourde and Marcella Nadeau.

Ron was born and grew up in St. Agatha, moving to Lewiston after serving in World War II with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant. He was with the 80th Division and part of the third wave that landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a manager and owner of Dodge Clothes, a men’s clothing store in Lewiston for many years. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a communicant of Holy Family Parish in Lewiston.

He and his wife retired to Clearwater, Fla., and have been there 30 years. He enjoyed traveling in his RV and playing pool at the Hampton in Clearwater, where they lived for many years.
