Baby-sitting course offered by YWCA

LEWISTON — YWCA of Central Maine will offer an American Red Cross baby-sitting training course for boys and girls ages 11 to 15.

Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 6 and 13, at 130 East Ave. Participants will learn basic child care techniques and care giving skills, first aid and home safety. Classes are taught by American Red Cross instructor Judy Emch.

Each baby sitter will receive an American Red Cross infant and child CPR certification upon completion of the course.

The cost is $75 for members and $90 for nonmembers. Space is limited. Registration deadline is Nov. 2.

First Auburn Seniors to meet 

AUBURN — The First Auburn Senor Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Hasty Community Center for a regular meeting and cookie raffle. 

The board meeting will take place at 10 a.m. 

Those attending should bring cookies for the raffle and a bag lunch. Bingo will also be played.

Tickets for the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners will be on sale for $10 each.

Fifty-four members attended the most recent meeting. Halloween costume winners were Ronnie Berry, Fran St. Pierra and Barbara Willis; attendance winners, Lydia Martineau and Virginia Trafford; Pot of Gold, Carol LePage, Lydia Martineau and Cindy Larrabee; and 50/50, Sandy Verrill, Evelyn Sawin and Cindy Larrabee.

Auburn seeks senior subcommittee members

AUBURN — The Auburn Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is seeking motivated residents with interest in adult and senior programming for ages 50 and older to join the Senior Subcommittee.

Meetings will be held to explain the purpose and goals surrounding the Senior Subcommittee, which will include long-term goals, proposed programming and Senior Center work plan. One is at 11 a.m. and the other at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Auburn Hall in Room 206.

Reversing diabetes at The Ark

LEWISTON — Dennis and Cheryl Farley of Ready Set Go Healthy! and Cheryl Farley Wellness will present Reversing Diabetes and Losing Weight Naturally at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at The Ark & Olive Branch Café, 791 Lisbon St.

Those attending will have the opportunity to hear success stories from previous class participants. There will be cooking demonstrations and recipes. 

The class is free. Registration is required.

Lakeside Chapter to meet

WALES — Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Grange-Masonic Hall at 322 Centre Road.

The Chapter will honor the Star Point of Martha. The Worthy Matron requests that the lady officers wear green; gentlemen will be in dark suits or tuxedos.

The chapter will collect donations of paper goods, toiletries and money for the food pantry.

Picwick Club to meet 

AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s Charles Dickens and Victorian writers reading and discussion group, will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Auburn Library.

The discussion will be on “The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling” books one through nine, by Henry Fielding, with moderator Joan Moes.
