West Paris to honor veterans

WEST PARIS — Friends of the West Paris Library will host a reception for local veterans on Veteran’s Day, Friday, Nov. 11, at 226 Main St.

Following the 11 a.m. service at the West Paris Veteran’s Memorial, presented by Post 151, American Legion, the library will open its doors to the whole community in honor of veterans. 

With time to socialize, this is will be an opportunity for the community to express respect and gratitude to veterans.

A patriotic poem will be read by Jim Bennett, and there will be a demonstration of correct flag folding by members of Post 151. Coffee, sandwiches and donuts will be served.

Veteran’s Day ceremonies at AL

LOCKE MILLS — Delwin Wilson, Commander of Jackson-Silver Post 68, American Legion, has announced the Veteran’s Day ceremonies set for Friday, Nov. 11.

Services start at 10:30 a.m. with the Posting of the Colors, Opening Prayer, remarks and the band will play. The Adjutant will give a brief history of Veterans Day.

Bells will ring at 11 a.m. There will be  flag disposal, singing of “God Bless America” and closing remarks and prayers.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

MEXICO — A Veterans Day ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 11, in the lecture hall at Mountain Valley Middle School.

The program, organized by Commander Edward J. Roach, Jr. of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Commander Bill Petrie of the American Legion, will begin at 10 a.m.

Scout troops and other organizations are among those cordially invited to attend.

Veterans are asked to be at the school at 9:30 a.m. At the start of the ceremony, they will escorted to the section reserved for veterans, which includes all service people, male and female.

The county sheriff will offer the opening prayer.

Music will be performed by the RSU 10 music department. Tricia Thurston has arranged for a group of Girl Scouts to sing for the veterans. RAAPA singers will also perform.

The guest speaker will be John Madigan. The emcee will be Carol Roach.

Rangeley turkey dinner, landowner appreciation

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club will hold its annual turkey dinner and landowner appreciation at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Bald Mountain Camps in Oquossoc.

The event is held in landowners’ names as a thank-you for allowing use of trails. Cost is $25 per person. All members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

There will also be an open board meeting.

VFW holiday Chinese auction

PARIS — The VFW Post 9787 will hold a holiday Chinese auction Saturday, Nov. 12, at the VFW hall, 58 Main St. 

The viewing will start at 3 p.m., and the bidding will begin at 5 p.m.

The lunch counter will be open.

Club to discuss wintering bees

PARIS — Wintering bees will be the topic of the next Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club workshop that will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Those attending may bring questions about keeping bees in the winter.
