PORTLAND — Bruce Richard McIntosh died Monday, Oct. 31, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born April 24, 1945, in Springfield, Mass., to Robert U. and Leslye (Sargent) McIntosh. He spent his childhood in Enfield, Conn., graduating from Enfield High School in 1963. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed for two tours in Vietnam.
Upon his release from the service, he married Linda Barry. They had one daughter, Ellen Christine McIntosh, then later divorced.
Bruce came to Maine in 1987, where he met and married Barbara Louise Buker on Oct. 8, 1989. They had no children.
In Massachusetts, Bruce worked numerous jobs including managerial positions for the Springfield Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. After coming to Maine he held a variety of jobs in security, sales, home design and homeless services. He retired in 2012 after 10 years as a bonded courier.
Bruce was a regular, active member of Poland Baptist Church in Poland with a special interest in men’s ministry. He fulfilled his ministry interests by organizing a successful weekend retreat on spiritual growth and encouraging regular prayer gatherings for the men of the church.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mechanic Falls; his daughter, Ellen of Barre, Vt.; and three grandsons, Adam, Randy and Andrew, all of Vermont.
