WINTHROP — The Bailey Public Library will host local author and historian Dale Potter-Clark at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.
It’s part of the Winthrop Lakes Region Forum and will mark the 100th anniversary of the library. The program is cosponsored by the Winthrop Public Library Foundation and the Winthrop Historical Society.
Clark will read from her newly released book “The Founders and Evolution of Summer Resorts and Kids’ Camps on Four Lakes in Central Maine.” It explores the history of lakeside resorts and camps in the Winthrop-Readfield-Fayette-Mount Vernon area — known as the Winthrop Lakes Region.
The book has photos and details about the families, resorts and kids’ camps, farms, railroads, tourist boats and more that made the region prosperous for more than 100 years. The lecture will focus on the history outlined in the book and will also feature a question and answer session and a PowerPoint presentation.
Dale Potter-Clark is a Readfield native who ran Camp Ray of Hope in Winthrop, a statewide camp for grieving families. She is working on a book about the 150 or so pre-1900s houses of Readfield. She is also known for her series of Readfield history walks.
The event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be for sale at the event.
