‘Mixed Blessings’ sermon Sunday
PARIS — The Sunday, Nov. 13, worship service at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street will be led by Silver Moore-Leamon.
The sermon title for the 10 a.m. service is Mixed Blessings.
Donna Hurd is in charge of the music, including organ and piano. Coffee and fellowship will follow the worship service and all are welcome. Childcare is available, and the church is handicapped-accessible.
Closing of Holy Year of Mercy
LEWISTON — The Holy Year of Mercy, declared by Pope Francis, will conclude Sunday, Nov. 20.
In commemoration of the end of the jubilee year, the four Holy Doors in the Diocese of Portland will be closed during Masses.
Locally, Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul will be closed during mass on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 122 Ash St.
In December 2015, the Holy Year of Mercy began with the opening of the four Holy Doors by Bishop Robert P. Deeley to represent a renewed opportunity to encounter or grow closer to Jesus. The Holy Door represents the passage to salvation, which was opened to humanity by Jesus.
The doors are only opened during jubilee years so that pilgrims can enter through them in order to gain the plenary indulgence that is connected with the jubilee.

Daughters plan Christmas party
JAY — The Daughters of Isabella 677 from St. Rose De Lima held their monthly business meeting on Nov. 9.
Mail received was read.
The Daughters spent time planning the Christmas party, which will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7, at LaFleur’s Restaurant. The party will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
There will be raffles and Christmas caroling, and those who have a Secret Sister will exchange gifts.
The meals will be chicken marsala, baked haddock or beef tips. , the meal comes with a salad and dessert, coffee or tea. Those who did not have a secret sister but would like to exchange a gift with someone should bring a gift and there will be a gift to exchange with.
Card captains will mail cards to those who did not attend to share about the party.
Those attending should bring a canned good or non-perishable food item for the food basket.
