OXFORD — The Planning Board on Thursday night approved a site plan review application for an addition to the Paris Farmers Union building at 1435 Main St.

The approval paves the way for the construction of a 20- by 40-foot metal addition. Town Manager Derik Goodine said it will house a boiler.

Paris Farmers Union was incorporated in Maine in 1919 by a group of western Maine farmers to supply the area with feed, grain, sugar and flour. It has since expanded to 10 stores across northern New England. The Oxford building is its warehouse.

In other action, Planning Board members agreed not to reconsider its Oct. 13 approval of a shoreland zone application from Blue Waters Construction. The applicants wants to remove an old camp at 139 Black Island Road and replace it with a new one to address code issues. The move would not expand the existing building footprint, according to the application.

Alternate Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman had requested the reconsideration because records show the camp had already been expanded in 1992 and a past variance request was denied in 2000 and the code enforcement officer had requested further calculations from the builder.

Goodine, who was sitting in for Corey-Whitman and CEO Rodney Smith who is on temporary leave, said the board felt the plan had been fairly reviewed the last time, and based on the information provided and the fact that Smith had not stated there was any other issues with the applications or plans, the board voted not to reconsider its previous vote.

The board voted to table a building permit request for 168 Hogan Pond Road to raise the roof and add vinyl siding to the structure. A building addition was approved in 2005.

The vote to table was made because no proponent was at the meeting to explain the details of the request, Goodine said.
