1931 – 2016

OXFORD — Madeline Mae Allen, 85, of Oxford, died unexpectedly, Thursday, Nov. 10, at her home in Oxford.

She was born March 16, 1931, in Boston, Mass., a daughter of Leo and Julia (Perault) Lowell. She attended local schools and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School.

In December 1948, she married Merle Allen in Buckfield. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper in a doctor’s office. Madeline enjoyed cross-stitching and made each of her great-grandchildren a keepsake. You could always find her with a book in hand. She loved being surrounded by family at “camp” where the stories and laughter never ended. She loved her “Kendle” despite it not always doing what she wanted it to do. She always ended every card or note with “Take Care and God Bless.”

She is survived by a son, Stephan “Steve” Allen and his companion, Katrina Gavett, of Hampden; a daughter, Sandra “Sandi” Crooks and her companion, Philip Cuomo, of Oxford; a stepson, Scott Snow of Lewiston; a brother, Edward Lowell and his wife, Sylvia, of Mechanic Falls; four grandchildren, Kathleen Shane and her husband, Craig, of Dedham, Debra Finnerty and her husband, Pete, of Mahwah, N.J., Samuel Allen and his wife, Suzanne, of Penacook, N.H., and Brenda Wight and her husband, Mathew, of Gorham; great-grandchildren, Keith Adams, Sean Adams, Madelyn Allen, Ava Finnerty and Tyler Wight.

She was predeceased by her husband, Merle, in June 1971.
