1940 – 2016

AUBURN — Richard H. O’Brien, 76, a resident of Elm St., Sabattus, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Hospice House following a brief illness with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Waterville on Feb. 28, 1940, the son of Herman H. and Gertrude (Mitchell) O’Brien.

Together with his wife, Beverly, they raised their children in Sabattus. Richard was employed most of his life for the former Webster Rubber Co. in Sabattus until his retirement.

Richard was a longtime volunteer for the Sabattus Fire Department. He was deeply involved with his children and grandchildren’s sports activities, and was an avid NASCAR fan.

His hobbies included puzzles, checkers and playing cards, as well as hunting and fishing. Both Richard and his wife, Beverly, will always be fondly remembered for the loving task of also raising 27 foster children over the years in their home. He was a kind man with a wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Therrien and wife, Amy, of Sabattus and Ricky Therrien and wife, Lucille, of Auburn; one daughter, Judy Beck; one sister, Beverly Neilson; nine grandchildren, Amber, Nate, Mark Jr., Misty, Matthew, Dalton, Lydia, Sophia and Lily; and many great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Beverly McBride; and two sons, Vincent and Shawn O’Brien.
