AUBURN — Jane C. Doucette, 81, of Auburn passed away Friday, Nov. 11, after a long battle with cancer.

Jane was born in Westbrook and raised in Auburn. She is a graduate of Edward Little High School and the University of Maine in Orono. After college she was hired by the city of Lewiston to teach English at the junior high school. There, she met Richard and they were married June 29, 1969. In May 1971, they gave birth to their only child, Lynne. Jane retired from teaching to raise her daughter, and later returned to work as a clerk at the Auburn Public Library, a perfect job for the avid reader that she was. Jane also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and her flower gardens.

Jane is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Lynne; and the New York crew as they are so aptly called.

She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Hazel; her stepmother, Margaret; her aunts, Helen and Elaine; and uncles, Cedric and Maurice.

Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Jane’s online guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
