AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says the director of the Governor’s Energy Office is leaving the position next month.

Patrick Woodcock will officially leave the post Dec. 9. Woodcock took the position in January 2013 after having worked for former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe in Washington, D.C.

Woodcock says he believes he’s leaving the position with the state in a good place to expand clean and low-cost energy options. He and LePage issued a statement that did not say what Woodcock intended to do next, or who would fill the job.

LePage says Woodcock has worked hard to lower energy costs of Maine residents, and that his departure is a “sad day” for the administration.
