DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your help. I am wondering if you know of anyone in the Twin Cities who works on CB radios and can check mobile antennas?—No name, no town.

ANSWER: It is not clear whether this is a radio in your home or in your vehicle. Regardless, because CB radios transmit electronic signals they come under the jurisdiction of the Federal Communications Commission and anyone doing repairs to your radio or antenna must have an FCC technician’s license. Unfortunately, a search of Sun Spot’s rolodex and a search of the web did not find anyone locally. There are amateur radio clubs in the state that may be able to make a recommendation, like the Androscoggin Amateur Radio Club. They can be contacted through their website, w1npp.org. If anyone is able to repair CB radios and antennas please write in to Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping to find the right homes for several large, framed portrait photos that used to hang in the late Emmett Stuart’s studio in Lewiston. Emmett, or “Stu,” as he was fondly known, was my neighbor, and his daughter asked me if I would handle this task rather than just throw them away. His subjects were couples getting married, students about to graduate high school and other portraits. The portraits are still in Stu’s house but I can get them at any time. Anyone interested may contact me directly at [email protected].—Phil Whipple, Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice is seeking volunteers who can commit to at least two hours per week for the next year to help with a variety of important tasks that impact the quality of life for its patients and support the agency’s work.

Volunteer duties include transporting patients to medical appointments, picking up medications or groceries, assisting with meal preparation at the Hospice House, welcoming visitors to the Hospice House, making phone calls to home care patients and assorted office tasks like filing, word processing and data entry. Volunteer opportunities are available across the agency’s service area which includes all of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties, Northern Cumberland County and parts of Kennebec, Sagadahoc and Somerset counties.

AHCH provides training, a background check and TB testing at no cost to volunteers. In addition, mileage reimbursement is available for some services. If interested in any of the above-mentioned tasks, please call 207-795-9580 or 1-800-482-7412, extension 1280, to schedule a brief phone conversation to discuss your interests. If it looks like this opportunity is a good fit, we will invite you to attend volunteer training. There is still space available in the training scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30.
