1938 – 2016
RUMFORD — David Warren passed away Friday, Nov. 18.
‘I have laid aside business and gone fishing.’ Anonymous
Born in Farmington on July 17, 1938, he was the son of Revelo G. and Lucille (Webber) Warren.
He received his education in Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School in 1956. He participated in many sports and basketball was his favorite. He was a member of the 1953 State Championship team for Phillips High School. He joined the National Guard after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1964.
On July 12, 1974, he married Geraldine Arsenault of Mexico and they started their life together in Dixfield.
In 1957, David was hired by the then Oxford Paper Co. as a spare and retired in 1996 with over 40 years of service. When he retired, he was the manager of the utilities department and was honored to be a member of the 40 Year Club. He also belonged to the Masonic Blue Mountain Lodge No. 0067 of Phillips.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and passed along that tradition to his boys. Spending time at the camp in Madrid was a family tradition, as well. He was a founding member of the Webb River Valley Sportsmen’s Club and was known for the construction of his fly-fishing rods and flies.
After retiring in 1996, he and Gerrie purchased their first RV, packed up with their dear friends, Alton and Beverly Arsenault, and spent the next three months traveling to Alaska and touring this great country. Before they arrived back home, they had hit almost every state and Canadian province!
In 2000, they started spending winters in Fort Myers, Fla., on their own lot at Cypress Woods RV Resort, enjoying the social life, Happy Hours, and golfing with all their friends. He started perfecting the craft of wood-carving and his family and friends treasure the carvings he shared with them almost as much as he treasured the friendships he made in the Cypress Woods Carvings Group and the Callossa Carvers in Fort Myers.
A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Gerrie, of 42 years; his three sons and their partners, Gary Warren and Missy Ellis, Michael Warren, and Brian Dawson and his wife, Tania; one daughter, Dawn, and her husband, Michael Maceda; his grandkids, Chad Warren and Kori Warren Vaughn, Merrill, Jeremy, Carolyne and Mitchell Maceda, Samuel, Caleb, their mother, Lynn and Hunter Warren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his longtime, dear friends Beverly Arsenault, Joan Hebert, and Gary and Linda Washburn.
His family would like to express special thanks to Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Department and Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care given over David’s long journey.
