1944 – 2016

AUBURN — Albert G. “Al” Pomerleau Sr., 72, of Rumford, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Hospice House in Auburn following a brief illness.

He was born in Rumford on Nov. 1, 1944, a son of Alfred A. and Gabrielle (Martin) Pomerleau. Al was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1964. He married Gloria Scott on July 30, 1966, and together they have celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Al started work in the family business known as “Freddie’s” back in 1955, working with his family. He purchased the restaurant in 1976 with his brother, Eddie Pomerleau. They sold the restaurant in 2003.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a former member of the Elks Club. Al was an avid New York Giants fan and enjoyed watching all sports. He also enjoyed daily phone calls with his brother Fred.

He loved being outdoors watching the birds and any wildlife that might come into his yard. Al enjoyed playing cards with his many friends, trips to the Oxford Casino, his several visits to Vegas and traveling with his friends, Jeanne and Rich.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria (Scott) Pomerleau, of Rumford; two children, Regina Moulton and husband, Blaine, of Minot and Albert G. Pomerleau Jr. of Rumford; sister, Mary McPherson and husband, Richard, of Florida; two brothers, Alfred Pomerleau and wife, Betty, of Rumford and John “Eddie” Pomerleau and wife, Sandra, of Rumford; three grandchildren, Scott Moulton and wife, Judith, of Fort Kent, Samantha Moulton and Seth Moulton, both of Minot; three brothers-in-law, Jim Scott of Dixfield, Dennis Scott of Florida, and Danny Scott of Ayer, Mass., who has stayed with Al and his family these past few months to lend support; and a sister-in-law, Denise Blackman of Worthley Pond.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Paul; and a sister-in-law, Rose.
