LEWISTON — The Dolard & Priscilla Gendron Franco Center will begin a new session of Saturday morning Fun in French classes on Dec. 3.
The free course will consist of 90-minute sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 4 to 12. The classes will take place over five weeks. A full schedule of classes will be available at the first session or by contacting the Franco Center.
No prior language experience is necessary. A parent, grandparent or adult caregiver should accompany children 8 and younger.
The intention is to provide an opportunity for families to learn activities in French that they can build on with each session. The Maine French Heritage Language Program curriculum is used as the foundation for the program. The curriculum offers a wide range of activities influenced by the local Franco-American and other French-speaking cultures.
The course will be taught by Jacynthe Jacques, a native of the Eastern Township region of Quebec. She has lived in the Lewiston area for more than 20 years.
Franco Center policy is that at least five students must sign up to hold a class, with a maximum of 15 students.
