100 years ago, 1916
Efrem Zimbalist, one of the world’s famous violinists, was heard last night in Lewiston for the first time. If the Pied Piper drew away the children of Hamelin town, it is no wonder that Zimbalist took his audience where he wished. Wonderful, his work certainly was. Not only do there seem to be no technical difficulties for him, but his sympathetic rendering and the broad scope of his understanding completely swept the audience away.

50 years ago, 1966
With Thanksgiving Day 1966 now history, preparations are nearly completed for the biggest holiday of the season — Christmas. Here a Sun photographer caught the new Lisbon Street, Lewiston, look with strings of Christmas ornaments stretching from the east to the west side of the street. Other decorations have been installed in surrounding areas of the business district.

25 years ago, 1991
Lewiston has received a shipment of new city flags. The ones that have been flying at city hall and the police and fire stations are old and torn and have faded from the original “French blue” to a light gray. To get a “halfway decent price” the city ordered a dozen flags, said City Clerk Gerald Berube. “This supply should last us a long, long time.”
