RUMFORD — RAAPA is getting a little sand in its stocking this holiday season.

Inspired by the many “Christmas in July” celebrations on lakes and ponds throughout the area, the Rumford Association for the Advancement of the Performing Arts will transport its audience to the tropics with their annual Christmas concert.

Tropical Christmas Fantasy will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 in the Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford.

The show looks to combine much of the traditional holiday music and sentiment with a decidedly nontraditional environment.

Performances will include such tropical pieces as “Mele Kalilkimaka (The Hawaiian Christmas Song)” and “Kokomo” (made famous by The Beach Boys), along with more traditional Christmas favorites such as “A Caroling We Go,” “Silent Night” and “Slow Dancing In The Snow.” Lighthearted offerings will include “Santa, Baby”, “The Reindeer Rock” and “I’m Gettin’ Nuttin’ For Christmas.”

There will be a live nativity in the sand and a visit from Santa Claus.

Bob Bohren returns as musical director along with accompanist Gail Door.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children (10 and under). Tickets can be purchased at Bartash in Rumford, All That Jazz in Rumford, Larsen’s Electric in Mexico, from any chorus member or by calling Anita Murphy @ 369-0205.
