Wish veterans ‘happy holidays’
LEWISTON — The community will have the opportunity to wish veterans “happy holidays” this season.
Tri-County Mental Health Services is collecting holiday cards to disburse to veterans at the Togus V.A. Medical Center.
Cards should be dropped off by Dec. 19 at 1155 Lisbon St.

Elks holding meat raffle
RUMFORD — Rumford Elks Lodge is having a meat raffle, the winner of which will be drawn on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The winner will receive a $125 meat package.
Tickets are $5 each. The raffle is open to members and guests.
A Christmas to Remember auction
OXFORD — The Resistance Ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will hold its ninth annual A Christmas to Remember Chinese auction on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Rock House Teen Center, 254 Webber Brook Road.
Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Ticket drawings will begin at 3 p.m.
There will be hundreds of brand new items along with a dollar table, a 50/50 raffle, and refreshments available for purchase.
Ticket prices at the door begin at $20 for 100 tickets. Deals are available to the first 25 people who buy tickets in advance.
The auction will benefit the Teen Center and the Resistance Ministries.

Church’s events for Chester Greenwood Day
FARMINGTON — Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will hold a sale, cookie walk and luncheon to coincide with Chester Greenwood Day on Saturday, Dec. 3, on Academy Street.
The Christmas and white elephant sale and cookie walk will take place from 8 a.m. to noon.
The luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost for the luncheon is $7.
Tree-lighting ceremony in Otisfield
OTISFIELD — The town’s annual tree-lighting ceremony will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Otisfield Community Hall.
There will be make-and-take-it craft activities for children from 2 to 4 p.m. Each craft costs 25 cents.
Santa Claus will arrive at 4:30 p.m. when community members will gather around the tree to sing carols and light the tree.
Following the tree-lighting, cookies and chocolate will be served while children can have their picture taken with Santa.
Throughout the ceremony, there will be a bake sale, and raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win stuffed Christmas stockings.
All proceeds benefit the Otisfield Community School.
Book club to meet in Buckfield
BUCKFIELD — The Zadoc Long Free Library Book Club meets from 6 to 7 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at the library, 5 Turner St.

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be hosting free workshops titled Essentials of College Planning at the following times and locations:
Lewiston: 10 a.m. Thursdays, Dec. 8 and 22, and Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way.
Norway: 10 a.m. Mondays, Dec. 12 and 19, at Western Maine University & Community College Center, 232 Main St.
The workshops are for adults 19 and older.
