1940 – 2016

SOUTH PARIS — Daphne June Martin, 76, passed away at her home that she loved with her loving family by her side, Wednesday, Nov. 23, after battling cancer.

She was born in Sweden, on Sept. 26, 1940, the daughter of Arthur and Hilda Chandler Cannell. She attended schools in Sweden and Bridgton. She married Forrest Martin on Feb. 24, 1968, and together they raised two families and owned Martin’s Store, later she went to work at the Family Dollar Store. Daphne loved family get-togethers, flea markets, gardens, Goodwill and most of all she loved to dance, she went just about every Saturday night. She loved people — a weekly trip to Walmart would always be a long event “She surely would run into someone she knew.”

She is survived by three children: daughter, Pamela and her husband, Jeff Jewell, of Waterford; son, Gregg Martin and his companion, Laura, of Harrison; and daughter, Lisa Martin of South Paris; seven grandchildren, Buck Gouin and his companion, Ashley, Gregg Gouin and his wife, Melissa, Whitney Jewell and her companion, Danny, Gregg Martin Jr. and his wife, Brandy, Holly Buck, Tony Martin and Lacey Oliver and her companion, Tyler; three great-grandchildren the apple of her eye, Faith, Ethen and Declan; two sisters, Marcia Bradley of Oregon and Mary Arndt of Harrison; two brothers, Walter and Glen Cannell both of Bridgton. She leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Forrest; three sisters, Joyce Cannell, Susan Durfee and Judith Nevers; a niece, Tina Boddy; and later love of her life, John Wormwood.
