At a meeting of the local barbers at George’s shop on Lisbon street last night it was to agreed to advance the charge of a shave from 10 to 15 cents and to make a charge of five cents for trimming a moustache. This action has been taken because of the increased cost of barber supplies and advance in wages the journeyman barbers. Fourteen of 15 of the local shops were represented at last night’s meeting and several matters pertaining to the business were discussed. In the past no charge has been made for moustache trimming, that having been part of the shave or haircut. All of the barbers felt that a small charge should he made for this service.

Members of the Lewiston Finance Committee squabbled last night over plans to rehabilitate Cedar Street Park and install an ice rink — again failing to award a contract. City staff had recommended that a $55,760 contract be awarded to R&R Construction Inc. of 518 Lincoln St., but concerns that another $38,000 would not be available to complete the park the following year have led two members to oppose the contract. City Council President Normand Poulin, a member of the Finance Committee, opposed taking a vote. He had asked at a Nov. 14 special meeting for evidence that the park could be functional and completed with a $60,000 federal Community Development Block Grant.
