ANSWER: It is always so nice to hear about acts of kindness in the community. Next time you are going through a drive-through, you might consider paying it forward and brightening someone else’s day.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our guest speaker this week at the River Valley Rotary Club’s fellowship luncheon at the HOPE Association was Eileen Broderick from the Western Foothills Regional School Unit. Eileen spoke about the need to have volunteers to help out in their literacy program at Rumford Elementary School.
If anyone is interested in reading to grade K-2 students, they could use your help anytime between 8:30 and 11 a.m. Grade 3-5 students could use help between noon and 2 p.m. Even a half-hour can make a difference.
A background check is required to volunteer. Forms are available at the Rumford Elementary School office. Those interested may call Eileen Broderick at 207-364-8155 or email her at [email protected]. For RES news, see their Facebook page. — Roger, River Valley Rotary Club.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I learn new things everyday reading Sun Spots, thank you for your services. My question is about “Ghost Hunters,” the television program on Syfy. It is advertised to be on and it is always something else. Could you please find out why? Thank you. — JoAnn, no town.
ANSWER: Sometimes the guide from the cable provider is not updated when there is a schedule change. Syfy recommends checking its schedule page on its website for the official and up-to-date show schedule. Also, because this was their 11th and final season, “Ghost Hunters” changing timeslots could be a result of ratings. Here is an explanation from the website:
“A program is scheduled in the hopes of getting good ratings and of helping the shows around it get good ratings. A show is given a new timeslot in the hopes of raising either its ratings overall, raising the new timeslot’s ratings, or raising the original timeslot’s ratings — and hopefully the ratings of the shows around those timeslots. Sometimes a change can result in lower ratings for some shows that were moved yet still be the right thing to do. Keep in mind that no show has a ‘natural’ or ‘rightful’ time slot.”
You can also try rebooting your cable box next time to see if it will update your channel guide. Simply turn it off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on.
