DIXFIELD — Selectmen on Monday presented Randy Glover with a plaque recognizing him as Dixfield’s Employee of the Year.

Glover, who has served with the Public Works Department for more than a quarter of a century, was honored for his outstanding commitment, dedication and performance.

Town Manager Carlo Puiia said all five selectmen approved Glover for the honor at the Nov. 14 meeting. He said Glover, a foreman, took on the role of director after the board chose not to fill the director’s position last year.

“His willingness and efforts to restructure the department have greatly improved our ability to provide more and better services to the citizens at a lower cost,” Puiia said. “The town of Dixfield wants the citizens and general public to know that we value and respect our employees.”

Glover was nominated for the award this past spring by Vickie Carrier, former deputy town clerk and tax collector, who retired in June after 33 years of service.

In her nominating letter, Carrier said, “I have enjoyed working with Randy for 25 years and have come to know him more since he became the Public Works foreman approximately a year ago. The town office has asked many favors of the Public Works Department and he has always made sure our needs were met.”

She said reconstruction of the Town Office has gone very smoothly with Glover’s help last spring, along with the help of the entire Public Works crew.

“I have heard many positive comments around town of how well the roads were taken care of last winter and how well kept the cemeteries are. Randy has also thought of several ways to cut costs in his budget,” Carrier said.

Puiia said, “When an employee makes outstanding contributions to the town and its citizens, then we are more than pleased and grateful to take the time to express our respect and our appreciation for their exceptional service. It is our sincerest hope that this humble gesture on our part clearly demonstrates to Randy that his work ethic and genuine concern for the town of Dixfield is acknowledged, and that we sincerely believe he deserves this recognition and honor.”

As part of the Employee of the Year policy, full-time employees selected will have a choice of one week’s extra paid vacation for the next calendar year, or a $125 cash bonus.

The general concept of the award is to try to build a positive work environment for the employees. It is also to encourage creativity and inspire each of the municipal employees with a sense of worth and purpose.
