1931 – 2016

LEESBURG, Fla. — Norma “Marlene” Grimes, 85, of Leesburg, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Marlene was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Bellwood, Pa., the daughter of Jesse James and Catherine (Everhart) Raugh. She graduated from Altoona School of Commerce in 1951.

Following school, she moved to New Jersey where she got a job at the telephone company and met Gilbert R. Grimes. They were married in 1954 and settled in Maine in 1960, where Gil joined a pediatric practice in Lewiston. They moved to the coastal town of Bailey Island in 1972, after spending summers there since 1964.

Marlene enjoyed working at the Log Cabin Restaurant, the Canterbury Shop, CHR Real Estate, Boucher, Perkins and Raye CPA firm and the Town Office of Harpswell.

Upon retirement, Marlene and Gil were snowbirds in Naples, Fla., before finally choosing to live year-round in the Royal Highlands of Leesburg, Fla., where they both enjoyed gardening and attending social events with their friends.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Gilbert Raymond Grimes; two sons, Gilbert Grimes Jr. of St. John, V.I., and James Grimes of Leesburg, Fla.; and two daughters, Kathi Grimes (Liscomb) of Pittston and Keri Grimes (Bojarski) of Brunswick. She has seven grandchildren, Brian Liscomb, Jennifer Liscomb, Alek Grimes, Katie Bojarski, Max Bojarski, Nico Bojarski and Ty Bojarski, three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Matthew Malo and Briana Pearl Liscomb, both of Greenville S.C., and Harper Mae Hall of Pittston; one sister, Donna Kay Hollen of Slippery Rock, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, C. Ronald Raugh; and her sister, Marjorie A. Nielson of Seaford, Del.
