1934 – 2016
AUBURN — Gladys C. Polland, 82, of Casco passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 28, at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn, surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Lewiston, the daughter of Ruth and Richard Stoddard. She graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn where she enjoyed playing intramural basketball. She then attended business school for two years.
On Sept. 4, 1954, she married Carleton J. Polland Jr., who died Sept. 30, 2004. They were married for 50 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, staying home and raising her children.
She enjoyed knitting, watching New England sports teams, and above all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Jurczak of Auburn; her son, Carleton John Polland III and partner, Ellen Sanborn, of Casco; and four daughters, Susan Robinson and husband, Brian, of Naples, Pamela Meredith and husband, Clyde, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Julie Andrews and husband, Mark, of Pembroke, Mass., and Mary Morelli and husband, Carmine, of Otisfield. She has 10 grandchildren, Heather Davis, Carly Hall, Travis Nelson, Kyle Meredith, Lindsay Powell, Melissa Polland, Teresa Mozitis, Rachael and Christian Andrews, and Jessica Potter. She has six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Scott Polland; and a grandson, Jeffry Nelson.
