1930 – 2016

AUBURN — Gerald L. Labrie, 86, a resident of Clover Manor in Auburn and a former longtime resident of Sabattus Street in Lewiston, died at Clover on Friday, Dec. 2.

Born in Lewiston on Oct. 24, 1930, he was the son of Adrien and Almance Boutin Labrie. Educated in local schools, Bud served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned to Lewiston and, on July 21, 1956, he married the love of his life, the former Constance Dostie.

For several years he owned the Pine Grove Bar with his brother, and later worked at Sears, was a deputy sheriff, worked several different positions at Pioneer Plastics, and for many years was a salesman at Country Lane Estates. He was known as the “Candyman of Country Lane Estates” because he always had some on hand for the neighborhood children, and could be seen rollerblading around the park with a cowboy hat on well into his 70s. He was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 22, having served in that role several times, and was a member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish.

Survivors include a son, Richard Labrie of Lewiston; three daughters, Brenda Gammon of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Debra Labrie of Lewiston, and Nancy Tremblay and partner, Alma Aranda, of Sabattus; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hinkley, Nicole Mercer, Louie and Amy Tremblay, Nicole Wyman and Ryder Labrie; four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Max Nelson, Sharon Glenn Jones and Zane Mercer; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased a brother, Adrien Labrie Jr.
