1931 – 2016

WALES — Mary M. Gile, 85, a longtime resident of Wales, died Monday, Dec. 5, at home in Wales.

She was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Kingfield, the daughter of Kenneth Sawyer and Phyllis Rowe Sawyer. Mary was educated in Kingfield schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. On April 28, 1952, in Kingfield, she married Richard Gile of Wales.

Mary worked at Wales Central School as the school cook as well as being a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing with the Squire Town Dancers, Artex painting and doing many different crafts. She loved her grandchildren very much.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Gile of Wales; two sons and their spouses, Dwight and Deborah Gile and Charles “Chuck” and Connie Gile, all of Wales; two brothers, Kenneth and Pat Sawyer of Poland, and Phillip Sawyer of Norway; a sister-in-law, Joyce and Mike Logan of Augusta; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents.
