CHESTERVILLE — Selectmen made several changes to the Highway Department last week.

Mike Cote, who was named interim foreman when Road Foreman Ron Powers resigned in October, has been promoted to road foreman.

Selectmen Thursday hired Jack Moultrie to a 20-hour position with the Highway Department and moved Jim Perkins from the 20-hour position to full time.

“Jack comes with a lot of experience,” Chairman Guy Iverson said. “He’s retired. He wants to give back and share his knowledge.”

Moultrie said he had been director for the Public Works and Transfer Station in Turner for four years. He was also Public Works director of Readfield for about four years.

He lives on the Burrough Road in Chesterville.

Iverson also recognized the invaluable input of Chesterville road crew worker Carroll Corbin.

“Through all the changes in the Highway Department, he has been the one constant,” Iverson said.

Following Powers’ resignation, Corbin agreed to stay on in an on-call role. He initially had also planned to resign, Iverson said.

“Carroll was crucial in the last two storms,” Iverson said. “The other guys were out of town, we called him and he came in. He’s 71 years old and works harder than the kids. He’s the kind of people we’re looking to hire.”

In other business, the selectmen reviewed budget figures for the year to date.

Iverson said coming in under budget are:

• The Fire Department, $20,000; and

• The Highway Department, $99,000.

“We will be well-under budget for the second year in a row,” Iverson said.
