1944 – 2016

PORTLAND — Graydon “Grady” A. Stanhope Jr., passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 9, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

Born in Lewiston on Aug. 18, 1944, Grady was the son of the late Graydon and Helen (Norris) Stanhope. He graduated from Livermore Falls High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation, Grady worked for Albany Felt Co. in Monmouth, until 1965. He then worked for Otis Mill/International Paper in Jay, until 1987, where he ended as a spare hand on a No. 3 paper machine. In June 2014, Grady retired from Cascade Auburn Fiber after several years of employment.

Grady enjoyed all New England sports and NASCAR; however, his greatest enjoyment came from the outdoors. Having been raised on the family farm, Grady loved animals, especially his beloved dog GB. Grady was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman and he proudly displayed his trophies throughout his home. He enjoyed hunting and going to the casinos with his close friend and uncle, Ralph Norris. Just this past fall, Ralph took Grady hunting to one of his favorite spots and Grady tagged a deer. Grady also enjoyed watching the birds and gardening. He loved his house on Lovejoy Pond in Fayette where he spent countless days on the water and taught many people how to water ski.

Above all else, he was an incredibly proud father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his partner in life and friendship, Belinda Bothwick; his children, Wanda Siddiq and husband, Omar, of Virginia, Laurie Therrien of Livermore, and Brandon Stanhope and wife, Angela Hastings, of Virginia; siblings, Frances Page and husband, Kenneth, of Leeds, Stanton Stanhope and wife, Sue Dalrymple, of Livermore Falls; and 10 grandchildren.
