100 years ago, 1916
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Lewiston met last evening and considered several matters of business. A bid for exterminating the brown tail moths of Lewiston was received from S. E. Folkins, moth expert at 352 Main Street. Mr. Folkins said be would do the work for $1,500. The matter was referred to the mayor with power to act.

50 years ago, 1966
It appears that one of Santa’s reindeer (the name was not disclosed) was in Rumford late Tuesday afternoon to map out the route for a Christmas Eve visit from that Jolly bearded man. Apparently the large doe, walking along Congress Street around 4:25 p m , decided to look over Freddie’s Restaurant. She jumped through the plate glass door at Freddie’s Restaurant and became trapped between the second glass door. Confused, she turned around and leaped back onto the cement sidewalk and ran onto Congress Street in a northerly direction, much to the amazement of the Christmas shoppers who were out in full force.

25 years ago, 1991
The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club’s tree sale at the Auburndale Shopping Center is in its fifth year and sales are going well, said club president Alan Hahnel. The trees are all $25 and range in size from 5 feet to 12 feet. Most of the selection is balsam fir, but there are a few Scotch pines “for the out-of-staters,” he said.
