FARMINGTON — Police say a Norridgewock man struck another man with his van Tuesday during a confrontation in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Nicholas Smith, 34, was charged with driving to endanger.

Smith got into an argument with another shopper around 2 p.m., according to a police report. It was unclear what started the argument, but apparently the two did not know each other, said Bonnie Pomeroy, Farmington Police Department secretary.

Words were exchanged and Smith pulled out of a parking space, Pomeroy read from the report. The other man stood in the middle of the parking space and told Smith that if he was coming back into the spot, Smith would have to hit him.

Smith pulled his vehicle back in and bumped the pedestrian, who then struck and broke Smith’s windshield, according to the report.

A loud argument followed and other shoppers called police, Pomeroy said.

The man who was bumped complained of lower leg pain but declined medical treatment.

Smith was released from the Franklin County Detention Center later Tuesday on $1,000 cash bail, according to a jail officer.
