AUBURN — Central Maine Community College won a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2, a showdown of unbeatens, with a 71-56 victory over Southern Maine Community College on Wednesday.

Brooke Reynolds notched a double-double for the Mustangs, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also had four steals.

Jane Lester came off the bench and scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds for CMCC (14-0, 7-0) in only 10 minutes. Nicole Hamblin contributed 12 points.

“We had chances to go on runs and put them away earlier, but they hung around,” Mustangs coach Andrew Morong said.

SMCC (13-1, 7-1) was led by Alicia Ruth’s 17 points off the bench. Alexis Antonacci added 15 points.

“It was an all-around great team effort,” Morong said.

Men’s basketball

CMCC 72, SMCC 57

AUBURN — A balanced attack was key for Central maine Community College on Wednesday in a convincing 72-57 victory over in-state conference rival Southern Maine Community College at Kirk Hall.

Pietro Badalassi led all players with 18 points and eight boards to lead the Mustangs (10-4 overall, 6-0 YSCC). Teammate Rob Skinner finished with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, four rebounds, five assists and five steals.Thirteen different CMCC players scored on Wednesday. Kaleb Benjamin and Cornelius Lawhorn added seven each.

Dylan Silvestri led the Seawolves (12-3, 6-2) with 12 points off the bench, while Chase Soares hit for 11.

CMCC next plays after the winter break, on the road at the Community College of Rhode Island. The Mustangs’ next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 18 against the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Girls’ basketball

Lisbon 47, Carrebec 18

LISBON — The Lisbon girls’ basketball team has started its season with two blowout wins, the latest by a 47-18 score Tuesday night.

Kaitlin Le led the Greyhounds with 12 points. Jasmin Le added nine points, and Giana Russo finished with seven.

Melanie Clark topped the Cobras (0-2) with nine points.

Lisbon (2-0), which opened the season with a 56-28 win over Hall-Dale last week, hosts Oak Hill (0-1) on Thursday.

Buckfield 39, Seacoast Christian 21

BUCKFIELD — Kali Litchfield led all players with 15 points, including three from beyond the arc, to lead Buckfield to a 39-21 win over Seacoast Christian in a Class D South girls’ basketball game on Wednesday.

Emily Swartz also hit double digits for the Bucks, draining 10.

Courtney Williams led Seacoast with seven points, while Cadence Robbins added five.

Pine Tree Academy 28, Hebron Academy 25

FREEPORT — Reily and Maddy New scored 10 and eight points, respectively, for Hebron Academy on Wednesday, but their combined effort wasn’t quite enough to help lift the Lumberjacks past Pine Tree Academy in a Class D South contest Wednesdsay. Pine Tree’s Alex Goodman led her team with 10, as well, in a 28-25 win.

Reily New did earn a double-double, though, hauling in 12 boards to go with her 10 points. Maddy New contributed five assists.

Boys’ basketball

Telstar 60, Mt. Abram 47

BETHEL — Tanner Wheeler and Avry Griffin scored 14 points apiece to lead Telstar to a 60-47 win over Mt. Abram in the Rebels’ MVC season-opener on Wednesday night.

Griffin also led Telstar defensively with outstanding coverage of the Roadrunners’ top scorer, Dan Luce, from the second quarter on. Jarrett Bean added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Rebels, while Blake Rothwell chipped in with 10 points.

Dan Luce led the Roadrunners (0-2) with 24 points while Nate Luce added 11 points.

Seacoast Christian 42, Buckfield 33

BUCKFIELD — Buckfield went ice cold in the middle two quarters and couldn’t recover to fall to Seacoast Christian, 42-33, in East/West Conference boys’ basketball action on Wednesday.

Jett Archer and Jesse Towne scored 11 points apiece to lead Seacoast Christian (2-1). Ethan Jackson led all scorers with 18 points for the Bucks (0-2), who scored five points each in the second and third quarter.
