(Photo Caption) It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the Twin Cities, and Wednesday’s snowfall put just the right touch on this attractive Auburn home. New equipment at the Lewiston recycling center will make baling “a lot more efficient,” said Eileen Sylvan Johnson, the city’s solid waste superintendent. The center on River Road takes in waste from the city’s curbside and drop-off recycling programs. A new conveyor and fluffer in the baling area mean that the lone employee there will be able to keep up, Johnson said. The recyclables can be pushed along the floor to the conveyor “instead of picking them up, driving them over, putting them in the baler” and then starting all over, Johnson said. The equipment, which cost $46,000, arrived Monday and was operational by the end of the week.
