Legion scholarship accepting applications

RUMFORD — Auxiliary Unit No. 24, American Legion, is seeking applicants for the annual scholarship program.

Scholarship applications for the Class of 2017 can be picked up at Mountain Valley High School and Dirigo High School guidance offices and at the Post at 184 Congress St.

High school seniors who are children or grandchildren of current Auxiliary members are eligible to submit their application by Feb. 1. Scholarship money is distributed once first semester grades are submitted by the end of January 2018.

Last year’s recipients were graduates of Mountain Valley High School and Radford High School in Hawaii.

Bridge club lists results

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club winners on Dec. 16 were, first in Flight A, Dottie Kelleher and Mike True; second and first in B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford Jr.; third in A and second in B, Norma and Rick Verrill; tied for fourth, fifth and sixth, Rosemarie Goodwin and Luke Merry with Hazel Glazier and Dick Allen with Eleanor and Lindy Wigton, who also were third in B; first in C, B.J. and Steve Cavicchi; second, Elaine Dresser and Arlen Riis; and third, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. Fridays in the Oxford Recreation Building on King Street. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guaranteed.
