NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced its January calendar. All activities are free to those impacted by cancer.
This month the center will bring back Yoga Warriors and free Reiki sessions at their Saturday clinic.
Drop-in hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats and pillows or find resources. The Center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for oneself. The center is in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building at 199 Main St.
Banding Together to Restore: 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, Jan. 9, 23 and 30, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, lead by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored bands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities to safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier are part of this program. Preregistration is encouraged by calling 207-890-7063 or by registering the day of class by arriving 15 minutes early.
Yoga Warriors: 3 to 3:45 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 9, 23 and 30, at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. This free, gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided mediation and relaxation. Preregistration is encouraged by calling 207-890-7063 or by registering the day of class by arriving 15 minutes early.
Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class at the center, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Chair Yoga: 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Sherri will leads the class in chair yoga. No mats are necessary, and chairs will be provided.
Walk and Talk with David: David will share his favorite walking routes in Norway and Paris. Those interested should contact 739-7027 to schedule.
Guided Meditation Gathering: 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11. Guided meditation promotes relaxation, which will lower stress. Using imagination, along with the senses, participants may find a tranquil state that is rejuvenating. There are no known risks associated with guided meditation. Susan Kane will lead the meditation.
Free Reiki Session: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Norway Town Office, 19 Danforth St. Clients impacted by cancer may receive a free Reiki session at this clinic by calling 207-890-7063 before Jan. 14. Any open slots after that will be open to the general public.
Reiki 1 — Self Care: 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. Participants will learn to practice Reiki for themselves, offering relief from some stress and discomfort. Reiki complements the medical treatments prescribed by physicians. Charlotte LaBelle of Teresia Reiki will be the instructor. Individual sessions may be scheduled with LaBelle between 2 and 3:30 p.m. by contacting 207-890-7063.
Stampin’ Up: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. Kathy will provide materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Make a Dream Catcher: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4. Participants will get ready to catch dreams in the New Year.
Community Cancer Cut and Sew: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Jan. 11 and 25, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Participants will cut out material for bonnets and other comfort items needed by the Center. Sewing kits are assembled for people to take home to sew or sew them while there.
Crafting with Barbara: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Barbara Daigle will teach a series of non-sewing or beginner sewing crafts for participants to complete.
Knitting and Crocheting: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.
Coloring for Adults: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays. Coloring books and a variety of markers will be available.
Cards and Games: 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays. Various games are available at the Center to play or participants may bring one of their own to get a game started.
In case of inclement weather, activities sponsored by the Center are cancelled when SAD 17 cancels school.
