KINGFIELD — A year of celebration needs a proper send-off. And that’s just what Kingfield gets to end its 200th Birthday bash — fireworks.

The celebration will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, at the Sno-Wanderers Snowmobile Club shed on Route 27, where there is plenty of parking thanks to a new parking lot.

The event will begin with a bonfire and sliding party. Inside the shed, people can enjoy hot dogs, hot chocolate, popcorn and mulled cider provided by the Sno-Wanderers.

This finale and send-off ends the bicentennial the way it began. The beginning of the bicentennial celebration Jan. 22 to 24 started with a parade before everyone gathered at the sled shed for a bonfire, sliding and goodies. This signaled the reason for the celebration — the incorporation of Kingfield on Jan. 24, 1816.

Around 8 p.m., the fireworks will close out the year with a bang. 2017 will signal the start of another 200 years — if “the Carrabassett don’t rise!”
