As a landowner of property in Rumford Point on the beautiful Ellis River, I have concerns about Poland Spring’s plan to extract so much water from the area. I believe the figure mentioned is about 300 gallons a minute, 832,000 gallons a day, which comes to 150 million gallons per year.

That is a lot of water. No wonder Poland Spring/Nestle is looking for a new site in Maine to take precious water. In my eyes, it should not be for sale.

Rumford Water District trustees and the district superintendent have already spent tens of thousands of dollars on attorneys’ fees. Wow.

Maybe if they sat down and wrote a few grants, they could get the money they need to replace the 100-year-old water pipes around town and leave the water alone at Rumford Point.

I just want to have the water that is available for the rest of my lifetime, and maybe for eternity.
