NORWAY — The Planning Board voted 4-0 Thursday evening to approve a sign change to the Dunkin’ Donuts under construction at 60 Fair St.
In September, the board voted unanimously to authorize a building permit for a Dunkin’ Donuts shop in the former Tim Hortons Coffee & Bake Shop.
Michael Rentschler, construction manager of MDM Management Group of Acton, Massachusetts, said the permit was to allow general contractor Thompson Building Services Inc. of Gardiner to remodel the property.
He added that no changes would be made to the size of the building or the property, and that the only change to the exterior would be updating the style to match other Dunkin’ Donuts shops.
Rentschler on Thursday requested authorization to change the sign in front of the building from a monument sign to a pylon sign.
Chairman Dennis Grey said that the sign would be 4 by 8 feet and attached to a 16-foot pole.
Grey told the rest of the board that the sign meets the requirements of the town ordinance.
“Originally, when the building was a Wendy’s, the town required lower signs, but since then, a number of these residences have become commercial properties,” Grey said. “The signs are higher now, so it’s not really a problem.”
The Dunkin’ Donuts will open next year.
